April 2011: Event at Mutual of Omaha : Law Division . This event will take place at Mutual Of Omaha on April 21st from 9-11 AM in Dome Room A. Please join us for several presentations by our “Mutual of Omaha” Law division. You will have a chance to ask questions and have lunch prior to returning to school. In addition, we have planned to have our Human Resources area engage you in some interactive exercises that will increase your communication skills in the business environment. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all intereseted students !
COMING SOON : ANNUAL SENIOR SEND-OFF EVENT ON MAY 5th (Cinco De Mayo) !! We will meet at Chops Bowling (2518 S. 13th St.) that Thursday from 12:00 – 2:30 PM. Lunch will be provided; Bob will be getting food from Jacobo’s (yummy) . We will show recognition of our graduating seniors, while also welcoming the new students to our NorthSTAR program for the upcoming school year.
We will then get our bowling shoes on and see who the true bowlers are within our group! We hope to see all of you there !!!

February 2011 Event : NorthSTAR Architecture Engineering Event .
This event was held Thursday, February 24th from 11:30 – 2 PM. The group visited DLR Group of Omaha, located at 400 Essex Court in Regency Park. Presentations were given about the Design Process ( Pre-Design, Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Development and Construction Administration).
January 2011 Event : This event was canceled due to a number of school cancellations. This is the second year in a row where mother nature has interfered with snowstorms.
December 2010 Event : Tour at UNMC (University of Nebraska Med Center. There was a short presentation about different medical fields available for students to consider as they get closer to deciding on a college. Students were given the opportunity to ask questions of current medical students who are studying various programs at UNMC. We also toured the research tower /lab.
NorthSTAR’s November event is the annual Thanksgiving Food Basket Project, sponsored by Mutual of Omaha’s HALO Club. This is a wonderful community service project where we all help to assemble food baskets and deliver to the needy in our area. Students helped with a number of tasks: packing the boxes of food, helping Mutual Associates load boxes into their cars for delivering, and delivering to the homes of those families receiving the donations.
Afterwards, NorthSTAR mentors treated students to lunch at Mama’s Pizza.
Past Events with NorthSTAR :
NorthSTAR has taken our students on a number of events, touring colleges and business to show students a variety of career possibilities to consider : journalism, medical, business, engineering, architecture…….just to name a few.
In the past, we have visited: UNL Campus, Omaha World-Herald, Omaha Community Playhouse, NE Methodist College, Offutt Air Force Base, Holland-Basham Architecture Firm, Peter Kiewit Institute/UNO…..and others.
