Upper Dublin Aquatic Club
Olympic Champions Josh Davis & Brendan Hansen led an awesome BREAKout! clinic in Ft. Washington, PA on Jan. 21 with the swimmers of the Upper Dublin Aquatic Club.
Here are some “club comments” from the UDAC:
“The clinic was outstanding to say the least!…My high school son has used the technique tips he learned in his practices and meets this week. And his teammate dropped over 8 seconds off his breaststroke time already–his coaches and teammates are amazed!…Most of all, they talk about it so positively with their friends. Josh and Brendan’s stories made the experience real, up close, and personal.â?? — Coach
“The swimmers were absolutely THRILLED to tell me all about the clinic. They told me all of the tips that they learned from Josh and Brendan. In particular, they were excited to learn that streamlining was extremely important in swimming. Obviously, we have been working on streamline the entire season! However, during the first set in practice the day after the clinic, every swimmer actually streamlined! This was a first! In addition, the students’ strokes were much smoother than before.” — Coach
“After a long season, swimmers tend to look more tired in the pool or less enthusiastic. However, hearing from Josh and Brendan has helped the kids realize that hard work is the only way to improvement, but there’s still room to have fun!” — Coach
“Overall, the clinic was amazing…a great way for the team to come together even more and a great time to be motivated, especially since our championship meet is coming up in a few weeks.” — Coach
“Sometimes it takes someone who has been really successful at a sport to tell you something, even if your coach has said it to you many times, for it to click.” — Coach
“I also really enjoyed the talk that Josh gave about having an ‘attitude of gratitude.’ This is so important for children to know and understand at a young age. When he said that your parents love you no matter how you perform, that they love you for you and not for how fast you swim…that message was SO important for our swimmers to hear.” — Coach
â??As a coach, I thought the clinic was awesome and the speeches motivational…As an observer at the clinic, I could actually see the improvement as the participants swam with the Olympians. — Coach
â??I learned that working hard, day in and day out, and always knowing that you can be better, will help you succeed and achieve greatness.â?? — Swimmer
â??I learned streamlining is the most important part of any stroke and if you donâ??t do that, your whole race will be messed up!â?? — Swimmer
â??For the first time in years, my son is asking me to watch him in practice, as he puts what he has learned from Josh and Brendan to use. The smile on his face is priceless. Thank you, Josh and Brendan.â?? — Parent, Board Member, Clinic Organizer
â??I loved all of the clinic: To hear personal testimony from Josh and Brendan was really inspiring; To see the smiles of the kids while swimming with them [Josh and Brendan] was amazing. Absolutely amazing.â?? — Parent
â??The mother of one of our swimmers has reported that her son no longer plays with his X-box during free time. Even in the ten minutes before he has to leave for school, heâ??s watching the clinic dvds!â?? — Parent
â??Parents have observed their children practice their strokes as they walk from room to room and down hallways..they have a new enthusiasm for swimming! And best of all, parents are watching as their children shave seconds off of their times at competitions - all within a week of the clinic!â?? — Parent
â??We. Must. Race. Breaststroke!â?? — R. Smith (Age 6) to Brendan Hansen
Thank you, UDAC!!!
