Austin, TX – Nitro Swim Club

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

I lived in Austin, TX for 13 years and it still one of my favorite cities on the whole planet! Great restaurants…great music…great stuff to do outdoors…and great SWIMMING!

And it’s exciting to see that Austin’s tradition of swimming excellence is not just at the University of Texas!

Under the inspired vision and leadership of Head Coach Mike Koleber, Club Nitro was formed about a year ago. They have been sharing pool space until just a few days ago when they opened up their brand new swim center in North Austin! Congratulations, Nitro!!!

San Antonio, TX – Hidden Forest Swim Team

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

Well, summer is officially here!

I love this time year…I have so many fond memories of riding my bike to the pool every day during the summer and just swimming with my friends all day long. So, I feel pretty blessed to be able to still hang out at the pool all day long with my closest friends!

Unfortunately, planes have replaced my bike as the usual mode of transportation but occasionally I get the opportunity to lead a BREAKout! Clinic in my home city of San Antonio (Go Spurs!)…

One clinic on May 22nd was particularly special for me because it was the 1st clinic in which some of my own children actually participated!!! (more…)

Flushing, NY – Dolphin Swimming

Saturday, June 16th, 2007

I had the privilege of celebrating the Memorial Day weekend with the talented swimmers of…

Dolphin Swimming in New York City!

Tiffany Yip, a former swimming champion herself, is the coach and director of this successful club and swim school. Created 10 years ago, Dolphin Swimming is the first Chinese-American swim school in NYC!

Tiffany and her staff have taught thousands of young people how to swim the right way, so that’s why I knew a BREAKout! Clinic would be a great fit for her kids.

Calabasas, CA – Viewpoint School

Monday, May 28th, 2007

On this Memorial Day, I’d like to say thank you to the all of the men and women who have served, and continue to serve, their country in each branch of our military. I have the utmost respect for those in our armed forces who sacrifice so much to keep our country free and safe. THANK YOU!

So, my last blog entry made me tired just writing about it…600 kids! But Kim, Kicker, and I had such a blast with the swimmers in Redlands, CA!

I love California…the weather, the beaches, the people…so I was excited to be spending another day with some of the best swimmers in the country!

So, I go from 600 kids on Saturday in Redlands, CA to teaching 20 kids on Sunday!

It was such a joy to work with the dedicated swimmers of the Viewpoint School. Viewpoint is an awesome prep academy just north of Hollywood in Calabasas, CA. These kids were a huge inspiration to me as they do an amazing job balancing school, swimmng, and community service.

Southern California Swimming – Eastern Section

Friday, May 25th, 2007

On April 21, 2007 the Eastern Section division of Southern California Swimming hosted me, Kim Vandenberg, and Kicker Vencill for a BREAKout! Clinic on the campus of Redlands University in Redlands, CA.

600 swimmers at one BREAKout! Clinic!!!!

Unbelievable, but true! I don’t know if this is a world record, but it’s definitely the largest clinic I’ve ever been a part of!

We were with these amazing swimmers for 9 hours!

We were set to start at 8 a.m., but the swimmers were chomping at the bit at 7:30!!! We passed out all the Mutual goodie bags and jumped in at 8 a.m.

Oh yeah, did I mention that the clinic was at an OUTDOOR pool! Outdoor pool in the spring…Southern California — should be perfect weather, right? Not this Saturday morning! 45 degrees!!! It was not only the biggest clinic I’ve ever done, but also the coldest! (more…)
