Helping with ‘Providers Day Out’

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Each year, Heartland Family Service provides health, nutrition and safety training for childcare providers in the Omaha metro area. While the adults are advancing their education, the children get to play games at the mini-carnival set up just for them.

Mutual of Omaha volunteers helped supervise and play with the kids, who really kept the volunteers on the go.

Gettin’ Crafty with Heartland Family Service

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Mutual of Omaha volunteers got a little crafty with the seniors at Heartland Family Service. They decorated some tote bags (see the last picture for the end result), which will go on sale later this year at their annual craft sale. Some of the volunteers played a card game called Manipulation with the seniors. Although the volunteers came up on the losing end, everyone still had a great time.

Tie-Dye Fun

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

A group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers visited the senior center at the Center Street location of Heartland Family Service. After serving the clients breakfast, the volunteers got creative with tie-dye and learned a few new card games along the way. To end a fun morning, one of the volunteers read a joke — a standing tradition at the senior center.

Solomon Girls Garden: Day 2

Friday, May 15th, 2009

An empty cement patio at the north location of Heartland Family Service was transformed into an urban garden filled with planters for vegetables, thanks to another team of Mutual of Omaha volunteers. The volunteers finished up the patio work and also spruced-up the surrounding hill.
