A group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers kicked-off a project to give the volunteer room at The Food Bank a fresh look. The idea for the project came when a creative Mutual of Omaha employee noticed the room could use a facelift while visiting the site prior to 100 Days of Caring. In an effort to make the room more inspiring, energetic and fun, volunteers set a plan to paint the room that provides a space for board meetings, volunteers and cooking. After several hours of steady work, the volunteers were successful in giving the room a fresh coat of paint.
A volunteer crew from Mutual of Omaha visited the Heart Ministry Center and worked to spruce up Sacred Heart Elementary School’s playground equipment with some new paint. The principal of the school commented that the playground looked new once again, thanks to the work of the volunteers.
Mutual of Omaha volunteers got a little crafty with the seniors at Heartland Family Service. They decorated some tote bags (see the last picture for the end result), which will go on sale later this year at their annual craft sale. Some of the volunteers played a card game called Manipulation with the seniors. Although the volunteers came up on the losing end, everyone still had a great time.
A small group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers spent their four hours of volunteer time at Lauritzen Gardens, turning over soil around the flowers and watering the beds. It was a hot day, but they worked hard to keep the plants looking healthy.
