A Finishing Touch at the Stephen Center

Another team of Mutual of Omaha volunteers took a beautiful Friday evening to finish up the landscaping project at the Stephen Center. The children’s play area of the homeless shelter has been completely transformed, thanks to the hard work of several teams of Mutual volunteers.

Strawberry Shredded Wheat, Anyone?

The Nebraska Food Bank received five gigantic boxes of strawberry shredded wheat cereal and a group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers were tasked with making single-sized portions of the cereal. This involved putting labels on the bags, filling, vacuum sealing and boxing them before they could be stored. Donning masks and hair nets, the volunteers accomplished the job and had some fun along the way.

Medical Storage for Heart Ministry Center

A team of Mutual of Omaha volunteers helped create a medical storage room at Heart Ministry Center, an organization that provides basic necessities, educational opportunities, health outreach events and support to individuals and families in North Omaha and surrounding areas.

Donation Sorting at Heartland Family Service

Stephen Center Backyard Makeover

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

On May 26, a team of Mutual of Omaha volunteers spent the afternoon cleaning up the backyard at the Stephen Center. Their tasks included planting flowers, digging and moving dirt and removing sod — not to mention a little team building along the way.

Tie-Dye Fun

A group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers visited the senior center at the Center Street location of Heartland Family Service. After serving the clients breakfast, the volunteers got creative with tie-dye and learned a few new card games along the way. To end a fun morning, one of the volunteers read a joke — a standing tradition at the senior center.

Packing and Organizing

Another group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers returned to the Nebraska Food Bank and finished packing bags for the Food Bank for Kids BackPack program. They also did a little sorting and organizing of donations to finish off their four hours of volunteer time.

YES Garden Build: Day Two

Another group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers returned to Youth Emergency Services to continue building a garden for the Maternity Home. The group worked on moving soil and planting flowers and other greens. They also built wooden beds above ground to help avoid the lead sometimes found in local Omaha soil.

A Heart for Sorting

Another group of Mutual of Omaha volunteers demonstrated their heart for sorting when they once again visited the Papillion location of Heartland Family Service to help get the donation center into tip-top shape.
